Using Pheromones as a Fragrance

Posted by The Fragrance Company on

Pheromones—a word we often hear with regards to scent in contexts like, “His pheromones made it so hard to resist him!” And still, the definition, sometimes, isn’t so clear.

What are pheromones?

Physiologically speaking, pheromones are a chemical substance released by an animal (usually a mammal or an insect) affecting the behaviour of others of its species. This applies in a human context as well. We recognize pheromones as a smell that is secreted from a male or female, usually around the neck.

Think about it. Do you ever breathe in your partner’s scent at the end of the day and feel an instant attraction? It could also be because you missed them, of course, but it is likely because of the pheromones they’re releasing.

How do pheromones work?

Pheromones are produced by fertile individuals and then sent to the opposite sex as a signal meaning they are ready to mate. In areas like New York and Los Angeles, the idea of pheromones is so popular that there are parties themed around it! Guests wear shirts that have soaked up their organic scent throughout the day, released by their sweat. Sounds a little unrefined, but the purpose is to attract others not by wearing an alluring fragrance, but by embracing their own natural smell.

What kind of behaviour do pheromones stimulate?

Evidence of human pheromones was only widely accepted in 1986. Research conducted by Cutler and Preti outlined the effects of pheromones on the female menstrual cycle. They found that women exposed to the secretions of other women either shortened or lengthened their menstrual cycle, depending on the phase of the other woman’s cycle; and male pheromones affect a woman’s menstrual cycle by accelerating and increasing fertility.

Specifically in male sweat, scientists have found that pheromones actually reduce stress and tension in females. So there’s a scientific reason why your hubby keeps your mood lifted and makes you feel more relaxed (among other reasons, hopefully)!

Pheromones as a fragrance?

Believe it or not, a number of Amazon shoppers search for pheromone perfumes that attract the opposite sex. The reviews for these products are mixed—some claim the fragrances they purchase don’t smell very good, while others state that they smell alright and actually work!

The Fragrance Company sells top-of-the line fragrances at a discounted price! Wear your favourite scent and order Online today. Your pheromones will be released by the end of the day, anyway!
